The Eythin Dollar

Another little find in the Hall’s collection. Pressed under the direction of the third Lord of the Island Samuel Keel (1675-1722) it was more for vanity, it’s assumed, than anything else.

Well worn over the years, you can still make out the glaive design at the center, the flower bosses and the date. Who knows where it’s been. There are a few on the island, washed up and uncovered in the sand, never in any quantity though (but like all good islands Eythin is supposed to have a trove buried somewhere!)

It is an extremely satisfying thing to hold, far heavier than you might expect.

I can feel it in my palm still, though it’s hours since I held it.
